The Sigma Chapter of the Delta Zeta Sorority hosts the Miss LSU-USA Pageant every spring with one goal in mind: Philanthrophy.

Last year the pageant donated over $60,000 and each year that number continues to grow.

All of the proceeds of the pageant are donated to both Delta Zeta’s national and local philanthropies.

Nationally, Delta Zeta supports The Starkey Hearing Foundation and Painted Turtle Camp. Locally, Delta Zeta supports The Emerge Center, St.Lillian Academy and Alzheimer’s Service of the Capital Area. 

So what are all of these organizations and how does the Miss LSU Pageant contribute!?

Starkey Hearing Foundation

The Starkey Hearing Foundation provides free hearing aids to people throughout the world. The Delta Zeta Sorority is the only premier women’s organization that focuses on speech and hearing. The Miss LSU Pageant helps to raise awareness of noise-induced hearing loss and bring the gift of hearing to non-hearing people around the world with the money raised by the pageant.

Delta Zeta also participates in the Hike for Hearing initiative, which partners with The Starkey Hearing Foundation. The entire chapter sets a financial goal to donate to the foundation. Not only does the chapter as a whole give back, but each individual chapter member goes on a personal “hike” to raise awareness and set their own personal goals to do their part, as well.

The Painted Turtle Camp

Enriching the lives of children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses is a mission that Delta Zeta Sorority is committed to achieving. The Painted Turtle camp (PTC) is Delta Zeta’s National Service Project, coupled with the Sorority’s national commitment to support the camp through donations.

The Painted Turtle supports children’s medical needs, inspires them to reach beyond their illnesses, and provides care, education, and respite for their families.  There is no billing department. All campers and families attend free of charge.

Through the volunteer experience at the camp, our members are not only helping the children that The Painted Turtle serves, but enriching their own lives as well. Our collegians and alumnae are honored to make a difference for these children.

The Emerge Center 

The Emerge Center is a non-profit organization that services patients with hearing loss, autism, and speech and language disorders. With the participation of the Delta Zeta chapter members and the money they raise through the Miss LSU Pageant and other events, the Emerge Center is able to provide various therapeutic services to those in need.

St.Lillian Academy 

St.Lillian Academy is a non-profit organization that offers outpatient pediatric therapy beginning at the age of three, full-time education and diagnostic services for infants, toddlers and children.

Through the Miss LSU Pageant, Delta Zeta is able to provide scholarships for children who are in need of educational therapy services to attend St. Lillian Academy.

Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area

Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area is a non-profit organization serving the Greater Baton Rouge area by providing education and support programs to those affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Every year Delta Zeta participates in their annual Walk/Run to Remember and Charlie’s Place. Proceeds raised by the Miss LSU Pageant help to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.
