Our Purpose – Philanthropy

Delta Zeta proudly supports our national philanthropy of Speech and Hearing. Nationally and locally we support several organizations that tie into this. On a national level, we support The Starkey Hearing Foundation, an organization that provides hearing aids and other services to those less fortunate.

To raise money for our national philanthropy, we host events throughout the semester. Our most prominent one is the Miss LSU pageant which is a preliminary for Miss Louisiana. This past year, the Miss LSU pageant raised close to $100,000, making it the largest Greek philanthropic fundraiser on LSU’s campus. The pageant is a huge accomplishment, and like every huge accomplishment, there’s a team of hard-working people behind it. Every single member of Delta Zeta at LSU has a part in the pageant; it’s a chapter-wide commitment.

One of our local philanthropies, St. Lillian Academy, is a full-time school for children with different social and learning disabilities. The members of Delta Zeta are encouraged to volunteer to be weekly buddies and attend Brownie meetings with the children after school. Alongside this, we donate to The Emerge Center, which is a local premier treatment facility for children diagnosed with autism, suffering with speech and language, and helps with behavioral services.

Delta Zeta takes great pride in knowing that our members go beyond just raising money for Speech and Hearing. What sets Delta Zeta apart is that outside of fundraising, our members are hands-on with our philanthropy and work with these children every week. In fact, our chapter was ranked as one of the top chapters nationally for Delta Zeta in the amount of service hours our members give working with these children and fundraising. Our creed states, “To those who may life may touch in slight measure, may I give graciously of what is mine.”
