2017 Contestant Spotlight: Alyssa Hooter

VividDream-12.jpg

Alyssa is a senior majoring in Biology with a minor in Psychology. She’s from New Orleans and at LSU she’s an active member of the Psychology Club and Zeta Tau Alpha.

Something interesting about Alyssa: She’s afraid of ocean animals, especially sharks! She enjoys painting, drawing, running the LSU lakes, and working out with friends.

Alyssa wanted to participate in the Miss LSU-USA Pageant because she has always wanted to be in a pageant, but never thought of herself as a typical “pageant queen.” She says that “while meeting the girls and getting to know everyone I have quickly come to realize that there is no such thing as a typical pageant queen and that anyone can reach their dreams as long as they decide to try!”

She’s excited to have the opportunity to compete in the pageant and says that she has always looked up to girls who compete in pageants, so “it would mean the world to me to be able to be that for someone else.”

Alyssa is looking forward to walking on stage in her formal evening gown because she’s obsessed with it and she can’t wait to show it off!

Alyssa would like to use the Miss LSU-USA platform to promote mental health and the need to end the stigma that surrounds it. She says that “As a sister of a special needs brother, I’ve experienced first hand how people think of those with mental disorders, both serious and mild. I think it’s extremely important to reach out to the young ladies of LSU and the community so they realize there is someone who they can talk to and really get some answers when they may feel like no one else understands.”
